[Review] Extracts Lip Balm Trio

 Price: £4.00
~~
Weight: 21ml

Extracts is a Tesco skincare brand, and quite a while ago, I received this lip balm trio from a friend. I must admit that I rarely use products from Tesco's skincare brands, so it was a new experience and also somewhat interesting to try out this set. After removing the lip balms from the outer packaging, you can clearly see the actual packaging of the lip balms themselves. Each tub has a diameter of roughly four centimetres, and are circular in shape. The lid can be screwed on and it's quite secure, which is a good start! ^.^
 ~~
On each lid, there is a sticker with the Extracts logo along the centre in a strip. Additionally, there is also an image of the main corresponding ingredient on the upper half of the lid. Conversely, the bottom half of the lip balm lid states what the lip balm's flavour is using white font so it's easy to read.

There are three different flavours in this trio, which are: pomegranate and rosehip (the one pictured above with a red tint), mango and nectarine (the one with a pale orange hue) and lastly, coconut and shea butter.

Each tub contains seven millilitres of product, and has a shelf life of twelve months or one year. The warnings are also printed on the backside of the packaging.
~~
In general, I really like the packaging as it looks professional and simplistic, although I am not too keen on the the constant dipping in and out of the containers as it's not very hygienic. Despite this, the overall aesthetics is very well done with the soft peach colour and the black, and furthermore, it is perfectly functional. The packaging closes securely and has never come loose since I have started trialling these products.

Now it's time for a more in depth review of each lip balm! So first up is the coconut and shea butter. The first thing you will notice about this product is the firmness. Hence, the lip balm is difficult to use at first as you will be required to keep your finger pressed onto the surface for a few moments until the lip balm softens up so that it can be applied. Moreover, the texture of this lip balm is very thick and viscous. This renders the lip balm to feel a little odd when first applied as it doesn't glide onto the lips smoothly and feels somewhat odd after application. Noticeably, this feels very thick and almost a little suffocating.
~~
The scent is also distinctly artificial and reminiscent of coconuts. However, I must admit that the scent was the least pleasant out of the three in my humble opinion.

Next up is the mango and nectarine flavour. Again, like the coconut and shea butter lip balm, it is very firm and viscous, and so the texture is more comparable to a lip butter rather than a lip balm. This also means that it is hard to spread around and difficult to apply. The texture, yet again, is strange and feels rather smothering.
~~
This lip balm has a pleasant, tropical scent, thus it is my preferred scent out of the three in this lip balm scent. It doesn't smell too fake nor stifling, and it's also quite mild. For sure, there is a distinctive mango scent.

Now it's time for the last review. The pomegrante and rosehip lip balm has an odd texture, not dissimilar to the two aforementioned lip balms reviewd above. However, what sets this lip balm apart is the colour, a bright pink with reddish hues. This results in a soft pink tint when applied on the lips which looks very natural.
~~
For this lip balm, the scent is also quite nice. It smells of pomegrante with some rosehip undertones, and the scent is quite rich and pleasing.
~~
This lip balm trio is a decent product considering this price, but I would not recommend this to anyone as there are many similar products that are roughly the same price but are of higher quality. These lip balms maintained the condition of my lips but didn't seem to make them feel particularly moisturised. So whilst this set has no detrimental effects, there are no positive effects either.
~~
Pros:
+ Cheap and afforadable
 + Nice packaging
+ Good amount of product

+ Travel friendly
+ Some pleasant scents

~~
Cons:
- Some artificial scents
- Difficult to apply
- Unhygenic packaging
- Not particularly effective
- No long lasting effects
- Doesn't provide relief and moisture
